THE BOARD LEADERS INSTITUTE
The Riordan Volunteer Leadership Development Program in partnership with the Executive Service Corps of Southern California (ESC) has a training program for the chairs of nonprofit boards. The Board Leaders Institute (BLI) is funded by a generous grant from the California Community Foundation.
The Board Leaders Institute participants increase their understanding of effective board governance, enhance leadership skills, expand their understanding of board roles and responsibilities, strengthen the Board Chair-Executive Director partnership, and develop ways to increase the engagement of other board members. The BLI also provides a safe place for board chairs to share their successes and lessons learned with peers.
RVLDP coordinates the training seminars for the program, and each participating agency has the opportunity to recruit new potential board members for their nonprofit by participating in the RVLDP agency fair . RVLDP graduates participate as well.
Because it is increasingly recognized that a combination of training and coaching maximizes the learning experience, each BLI participant is matched with an ESC consultant who serves as a one-on-one coach and mentor for the duration of the program. ESC consultants are highly-experienced retired executives who serve as objective advisors, sounding boards, and catalysts for personal and professional development throughout the learning process.
The cost for participating in the program is $800 per agency, which allows up to three agency representatives to attend.
